3.0i shift from 3rd to 4th @ WOT

So yesterday I was on an open highway and decided to clear out my X a little bit by doing a short WOT run. I was cruising at 60mph, slammed the pedal, it down shifted to 3rd revved to about 6800rpm (ish) then shifted to 4th and practically fell flat on its face. It felt like it shifted to 5th. I believe the RPMS fell down to around 4000/4200 RPM. Is this normal in the 3.0?

I did it again using manual shift mode to confirm it was the 3rd to 4th gear shift and it did the same thing, just feels like no power at all after the shift. It still accelerates but man does it feel like there is NO power...

Believe it or not this is the first time I have gotten on my X, I didn't buy it as a sports car so kinda drive pretty easy (all shifts under 3500rpm).

Try doing a reset for your transmission. It may or may not help. Put the key in the ignition, push the gas peddle all the way down, and turn on power but do not start it. Hold the peddle down for 30 seconds they release and restart the car. Then drive the car. This will reset the adaptive shifting program I think. I am not sure if it will help with what you are describing but it does not hurt to try.

Maybe the problem is you may be expecting too much from an I-6. It may pull well from 3rd, but gearing and hp/torque will greatly affect performance in a 5,000 lb vehicle. This may be why it won't pull hard in 4th but begin to slowly pickup speed.

I don't think it's that I am expecting to much, it almost seems like the RPM drop (gearing) between 3rd and 4th is too great and it just completely falls flat.

Exactly how fast are you going? I've owned a few i4's and can tell you they don't have a lot of high end due to the lack of horsepower. I believe you have about 225hp? You need to consider the hp to weight ratio as well . After 65 or 70, it's not going to get the job done if you want more and faster high end acceleration.

Its definitely not the fault of the engine, I have an I6 3.0i and it pulls hard in every gear. In fact putting the car in D/S mode makes the engine come to life, OP try to perform a reset of the adaptive throttle system but holding down the accelerator for 30 seconds with the key turned but the engine off.
