Where do I find the ZKE/ BCM

Hi all,

I'm trying to find where in my X5 the ZKE or Body Control Module (BCM) lives.

I have a problem with my interior lighting and remote locking and need to have the unit looked at.

Any help is (as always) appreciated!!

Before you go too crazy you may want to disconnect the battery, wait a few minutes and reconnect. This will solve alot of the funky problems. It worked when my interior lights started acting funky.

I did that recently tho - I left the battery disconnected overnight (about 9 hrs). Did nothing. Remote locking not working and interior lights not working. I believe according to others on this forum it is often a faulty ZKE or BCM

if re-syncing the keys does nothing, you have a faulty body module, it is located behind the glove box.

Did replacing the module work?

Hey bigjohnson,

I think my 2003 X5 is suffering same as yours. I have a door lock/unlock issue with the following symptoms:

*remote keys only works to open trunk, but not on doors or alarm, although, still can use key to lock/unlock manually via keyhole, start engine, and truck runs fine;
*main cabin lights are out;
*center console lock/unlock button not responding;
*fuel lid locks/unlocks with doors;
*no burnt fuses in trunk area.

Are your symptoms the same? Did replacing the module (ZKE/BCM/GM...some of the name for the module I have seen this far) fix the problem?

Thanks,
break80
