Where's the tranny fluid dipstick?

Just read the "tranny guys" thread, and got confused how to check the transmission fluid level? Does it have a dipstick like engine oil one? Sorry, newbie here. Thanks.

No such thing on these. I know it sounds wierd at first but it does not exist because our trannys have lifetime fluids and do not need servicing. Normally on other cars the red dipstick is for the tranny, on ours it is for the engine.

Ya, BMW claimed "life-time" which I suspect they're meaning 100K miles.....

Thanks, Repoman!

No problem! I am a little suspect of the "life-time" fluid too. Sounds like BS to me. Of course the way things have been falling off/breaking on my X, maybe 100K is considered a lifetime to these things.

The auto tranny has drain and filler plugs, to check you need to run the car up to temp then loosen the filler plug, a small amount of fluid will ooze out. If nothing comes out you maybe low. No dipstick whatsoever.

I would presume the dipstick is between the tranny's legs.
