Another electronics part of the car that gave up I guess.
It is most likely the module that controls the driver's seat.

My driver's seat memory module gave up, but the regular up/down etc working so I don't have any intention to get it fixed. The dealer and the mechanic quoted similar prices ($50) difference, about $600 to fix it.

If there is a good electrician he maybe able to get these modules fixed easily IMO. But the easiest way for mechanics is the change the whole thing with a brand new one. I have a friend who is electrical engineer, but lives in another city, I will ask him for help

And my steering wheel moves only up/down towards the driver or away from the driver. The other up down dimension (towards the windshield) is not working. My car has 70K miles.

The most reliable car I have ever owned

I love the X5 and it has been good to me without any major issues, but this one is a little crazy, also another issue popped up this am, "Trans Fail safe prog..". So i shut the car down and waited 10 secs or so, stated it up again and all cool!!!! So seems like there is a bug in the ISU.
Thanks for the prompt reply!
