I would do a couple quick, hot oil changes using OEM BMW oil and filters as well as look into the maintenance procedure for cleaning out the OSV at minimum.

Goo
A chocolate milk brown goo usually means water in the oil. Short run, cold temps can cause this but not uasually is any signifigant quantity. If that's the goo you got, an oil change is a must.

When you check the oil on the dipstick, you will be able to tell if it is dark brown/black, looking like dirty oil, or golden yellow, looking like clean oil. Either is normal. If it looks like the colour of malted milk, the chocolate brown that Diesel Dog refers to, then you likely have water in the oil.
If it is just the yellow paste under the filler cap, often called 'cheeze whiz' then it is from condensation. Doing one hot oil change should be good, given that you have no other symptoms.

Don't know what car you have, but you might want to seriously consider installing the updated parts especially if you are under warranty.

My personal experience is that I did not have any of the warning signs mentioned by your SA (off-color exhaust, rough starts/idles, loss of oil, etc) before my CCV failure and $2K-plus invoice from BMW for repairs. I wouldn't take the SA's word as a guarantee that nothing will go wrong.
