Have I found my car?

Hi All

I've just had a dealer bring a 2005 X5 Diesel for me to have a look at, black on black, sports, almost every option (no self levelling suspension, but just about everything else).

It's a bit high on the k's at 140,000 (I actually ticked it from 139999 to 14000 on the test drive), but I can get a 3 year extended warranty for $1100 (which covers me for up to $3k), or a 5 year (that gets me $8k of cover), on top of the statutory 3 month dealer warranty.

It appeared to drive well, but did make a bit of a dull roar at low rev accelleration. I'd be getting an RACV test done, so they should pick up anything that's not right.

There's also a couple of little scratches around the place, but no dents, so they can probably be touched up easily enough.

At $50k, I'm not sure if I should put up with the odd blemish here and there for the sake of every option available (almost), or hold out for something better to come along, which may not happen.

What to do, what to do...??

(All prices I quoted are in Australian dollars!)

Kilometre's are a bit high at 140K, thats kind of passed it's sell by date ;-) ...if you buy it take all the warranty you can afford as you will probably need it.

Does it have all the service records? Just seems overpriced.

I bit the bullet and bought it, pick it up on Friday.

The price was about mid range for what has been on the market, and it's the first fully optioned, black on black that has come up since I started looking. It does have woodgrain inserts that I'm not overly keen on, but I can always do something about that later.

We've got 19" wheels, TV/Sat Nav, Xenon headlights, panoramic sunroof, tow bar, sports pack, electric memory heated seats, running boards, etc.

The RACV test came back positive, there were some minor issues with the power steering hoses, but the dealer is going to address that. It's also getting a brand new sat nav screen, the original one had a case of UV pixel cancer.

It's had one owner since new, and full BMW service history.

Friday can't come quick enough!

Thanks! That was the pic the dealer took to advertise it, so I can't take the credit there.

It needs a good polish to bring out the deep black again (it's pretty good at the moment, but could be better, I think). That's a nice job I can tackle on the weekend.

Then, maybe, upgrading the nav software.

I don't know why people get all up tight about milage. You could look at it this way...if the truck has been serviced correctly ,hopfully everything that could go wrong has gone wrong i.e ££££tranny££££ etc. You only need to look on this forum to read people have had serious problems with gearboxes from 45k.Mine has 127000miles on the clock and yes the tranny has been replaced by the previous owner, so fingers crossed should last me out. The engines more often than not are bullet proof.Other than small issues that you can get with any car my drives faultless. ( I bet it will blow tommorrow now i've said that)

To be honest, I'm not too concerned about the mileage. I'm concious of it, obviously the less the better, but happy with what I got. It's from a semi rural area so long highway drives would have been the norm.

I don't do a lot of driving (less than 10,000k a year) so by the time I'm ready to trade up, it'll be a low k car.
