Angry icelink plus sound inferior to aux input?

so i just installed my icelink plus and got the mp3 tags to show up on my NAV screen, and the fun stopped there. i had an aux input connected to my car pre-NAV (2004), and it sounded great. the sound through the icelink is very "boomy", and almost sounds like it has some kind of compression, where it didn't before

could the inferior sound be due to not setting the "V" setting correctly (in the set-up part of the icelink interface), or some other setting i'm overlooking? right now it is set to V2.

i also tried adjusting the treble & bass settings in the icelink MODE, to no avail. has anyone else experienced this?

it's all about compression, starting with those mp3s. i found the best sound is
on car w\ dsp a slight mod of the settings on the x5world main page. bass treble 1/4 past center, a little echo and room
ipod rock eq
1v on icelink
ripping those mp3s to AAC or mp3 at 192k or 160k and use the newest remastered cd's if you've got them

Abbey Road studios claims 192k is optimum for closest to cd quality.

My opinion is the IceLink should actually sound better. The reason why is the AUX setup would use the headphone jacks, whereas the IceLink uses the connections at the bottom of the unit which should have a flat gain.

Have you tried adjusting the gain values on the IceLink?

Compression is exactly why I have not jumped on the MP3/IPod/Icelink/whatever bandwagon. I think the whole MP3 thing is a great idea, but the sound quality and compression is horrible. It is tough to find MP3s that are at a bitrate of 192kbps or higher, most are 128. Needless to say Satellite radio is worse, their bitrate is a lot lower than 128.

i'm aware of bitrate issues to be had with mp3 technology...but what i'm saying is that the same exact ipod sounded much better when i had it going through an aux input (oem) into my business radio set-up. the icepink-plus to 16:9 NAV set-up sounds worse. i will try to adjust the "gain" feature in the icelink and repost the results.

really hoping it works.
