Sounds more like the air pump shut off valve to me. O2 sensors usually show as P01 codes. Need Year and Engine size.

ok i'm pretty pissed right now,
i did more searching and found: P0412 code = An open or shorted condition detected in the secondary air (air switching/aspirator) solenoid control circuit.

so i check all hoses, took off airbox, the secondary air pump, blew in it, etc, all fine, i check the vaccum hose, all good, then i take the engine cover off, and suprise suprise
solenoid wires chewed!!! that f***** rat/mouse got in there again
there's new foam from engine cover freshly chewed (new color) from last time it happened, and looks like chewed the 2 wires going into the solenoid.
i'm pretty pissed (last time it was a vaccum line that got chewed, now this).

i better start parking in the garage at night, warm engine, cold weather, attractive for rats/mouse
time for some poison, grrrrr

What's the OBD II P-code for rodent damage?
Glad to hear you found the problem. You need this BMW retrofit: 82 10 9 416 945 Marten Repeller Retrofit. It's for an E46 but I'm sure you could make it fit an X5.

thanks Rayxi, i remember now where i saw the kit, on e46 boards, but who would have thought it'd actually happen in real life hah
lol thats funny retrofit, i will definitely have to check that out
because whatever roddent is there might still be around
my rottweiller was going around the car last night sniffing at the wheels,
there was definitely something there he kept going in circles around the car looking for it lol

here's my enemy lol

real oem shows retrofit kit for X5 too
as
01MARTEN REPELLERE53 M54/62from03/1997 to 08/2002 part 82100137609 See EBA 0136765
i really doubt anyone has ever had this happen to them but who knows at least there'll be a post about it for future reference

That sucks! Calls for some rat poison. Putting it in the engine bay should ensure no neighborhood cats or dogs get at it.
