Rear tailgate servo retrofit

Does anyone know if it is possible to retrofit the newer servo closing unit for the tailgate. I have an older X (2001) that I would like to retrofit. Thanks.

The motor that closes the rear hatch door, on the newer X's the latch is motorized so it pulls the door closed. I looked it up, they refer to that part as a servo.

He's talking about the soft close feature implemented on face lifted models. OP this should be possible, maybe a tech can sign in and shed some light on this. I not 100% but I think its part 17 on this model.

I see. It would come down to cost...I'm guessing these servos aren't just laying around junkyards, so if it's gonna cost hundreds of dollars just to close my hatch, I'll stick w/ how it works now. Being an 01 X5, you should be saving your money for maintenance Greg

i have actually removed the coding for the soft close feature of the lid on my vehicle, it is very noisy when closing, the weight of the lid is sufficient enough to close the lid completely every time. If you would like to add this feature, you may do so, you will need to replace the Body Module, as the software in integrated into it. And you will also need to change some pin assignments at the wiring harness as the GM3RD has changed, and add new wiring from the body module to the tail gate.
