Transmission problem rough shift from 3-4

I got a 2001 X5 4.4i it's got 125 miles on it, I have changed right about everything in this car! It has cost me a fortune to keep it running. It runs great and everything in it works except for the transmission, it has started to go all the way up to 3000rpm when shifting to 3 gear and feels like it has a hard time shifting but if i let go of the gas at like 2000rpm it shifts semi good, allso when coming to a stop it shifts rough going from 2 to 1 sometims. My dealer said that the gear and the motor are not spinning at the same time when he clicks in gear, he said that i am going to need a new tranny soon. I was wondering if this problem can be fixed befor it gets worse or is it a new tranny?

Mine holds the third gear for long as well... and i have a bang when i let go the gas on the second gear while rolling slight downhill and it bangs into the 3rd gear... such behavior is expected i think... its been 2 years and it's running like a charm...

someone posted to clean the throttle control unit and that will stop the harsh downshift before you stop

boomer..There's no real fix for your problem unless you get the tranny rebuilt or put a new one in. sorry to hear about your troubles..I was in the same boat..Cost me a freakin fortune to keep the X running in tip top shape..

Boomer, my 00' X5 is doing the same thing as yours and I was told it could possible be the mechatronics module (the valve body) by a BMW repair shop. 3k for it.
