Please!!! How do I remove just the center console trim?

So I almost traded in my x5 until my wife said "why don't you keep and it and make it exactly what you want".

So that's what I'm doing. I really want to take the center wood trim off and replace it. I read how to remove the console but there has to be a way to take off just the wood trim right? Any pics or old threads would be awesome. I have googled and searched and came up dry on this.
