Paint peeling on all the jambs?

After reading the other paint peeling thread, I'm assuming this is a fairly common issue. My hood jambs, as well as the trunk jambs and passenger door jambs are peeling. Is this a well-known issue that BMW will cover? It looks like absolute crap and the rear quarter will definitely need to be sprayed, and the hood might not make it. Thanks for any help.

I'm guessing you have either an '00 or '01?

Black 02 4.6 here and my hood jams have this issue. I thought maybe my X was in an accident and that got lazy re-spraying and missed the hood jams. Only noticeable at certain angles, but really bugs me.

This happened on our 02 Estoril 4.6 as well, notably around the windshield when it was taped to be replaced.

Thankfully it was at the BMW dealer's body shop and they had BMWNA cover it.

I would absolutely try to get BMW to take care of it - there is no excuse for paint peeling off of a $70k car.

How would one go about this? You think they would even consider fixing on an 8 year old X?

It was just last year when it happened to us so it was well out of warranty.

I think the first step would be to approach your dealership about it, I think that paint peeling off is a major issue, especially if you are the original owner of the car.

When you see cars from the 50s with original paint it is pretty obvious that BMW's processes were defective, it is just getting them to recognize and pay for it.

I'm not exactly sure what the warranty is on this sort of thing, but since you have 2 BMWs and I would assume want to buy more in the future they may help you out in good faith.

I am definitely going to the dealer Monday or Tuesday armed with this information. I am the third owner of the vehicle. BMWNA was the original owner (executive vehicle), then my friend purchased the car in 2003 with 10k miles on it. The car is in beautiful shape except for this problem, and it has always been taken care of. Its maintenance records back that up as well.

The fact that you maintain it well will help you out too, good luck.
