Unhappy dirty diesel owner

hi all having trouble with my x. its been to my local indy for a misfire problem no lights or loss of power and starts fine every time he thinks its burnt though a valve, had the oil cap off when its running and you can here a slapping noise when 2000rpm is reached you cannot here it anymore what could it be. help please

Afraid there are not too many people here with diesel X5's I would suggest talking it to the dealer for diagnosis. If there is no power loss/lights it could just be normal operation of the diesel engine.

Not sure about Diesel engines but the crankcase should have a slight vacuum. Thus taking the oil cap off while the engine is running should make the engine stutter and almost come to a stop. If it does not you may have a good vacuum leak. Most likely the VCV (Volume Control Valve).

Once again it may not apply to a Diesel engine as I don't know much about them. If you post the last 7 digits of the vin, I can try to look up the symptoms on the TIS.

hey thanks ln30484. i have the gt1 but cant get it to work with my obd2 cable bummer thanks for your help tho
