Well, I didn't think it was necessary to go through the whole line-up as there is also the Compass and the Commander.

Since all Jeeps but one are four doors, and you made a point of specifying a four door Jeep, I'm assuming you're talking about the 4 door Wrangler.
Pros - Very fun, lots of space, great aftermarket, and I think they come with the 100k mi warranty. Cons - Slow, slow, slow, loud (especially with rag top), the X5 is sporty in a "sports sedan way" where as the Jeep is sporty in a offroad dirt road way. If what you love about the X5 are the comfort, ride, handling, speed, and luxury you will probably hate the Jeep.

Drive a Wrangler after the X5 and you'll think you have been transported back to the Dark Ages. But at least it's very good off road, especially the Rubicon variant. Personally, I can't see the point of buying any serious Jeep (the Compass and Patriot don't count) unless you have off-roading in mind. |

Ugh. I had a Jeep (pronounced the Spanish way with with "J" like an "H" since it was indeed a heap!) Commander for about 6 weeks. It was the 6 cylinder version and optioned pretty well. I got it as a loaner while the Audi was in the body shop. 6 weeks is a long time and we put quite a few miles on it so we got a pretty good feel for it.
First off, the 6 cylinder was not powerful enough. It always felt lacking. I have a 3.0 X5 so the same could be said of that but the Jeep felt more anemic due to a variety of factors, namely it's poor quality and rough suspension. The ergonomics were atrocious, from the ridiculously small and hard to adjust air vents to the seats that could not provide a comfortable ride for any ride more than 30 minutes. The plastics were hard and unpleasant to touch. The switchgear felt cheap. The ride was decent if a bit rough, but that was in a straight line and corners were as bad as you would imagine. The example we got was practically brand new but felt more worn out than my 8 year old X5. I think you would be disappointed with any Jeep you buy to replace your X5.
