I believe your badge would have an 's' after the i. 4.4iS, among other ways. Wait for the professionals to chime in before purchasing though. I'm new to the world of BMW.

no that is wrong, there are tens of thousands of 4.4i, 3.0i and 3.0d that have sports suspension settings. You say you have sports package, that would infer that you do have sports suspension settings. However I believe (and I could be wrong!!) that the only way to know for sure is to ask a dealer whether option SA226 was installed on your car, by giving them the chassis no.

1999-2003 will have rear air bags for sport suspension. 2004-2006 will have front and rear air suspension.
