Check brake lights

Ok, today I got "check brake lights " message. My right rear bulb went south. How can I replace it?

Nope. I know nothing about cars, just starting to learn. So any instructions will be appreciated.

Best way to start: Open the manual.

Sorry ZigZag but X5 Miester is right on this.

If it is the outer rear break lights, it's really easy to replace. Open up the panel and pick out your bulb.

Maybe. It's a right rest brake bulb. So if I"m understanding you correctly, I have to access to replace it from trunk? Do I have to twist thy "white" bulb holder? Or should I take off whole assembly?

Come on dude, it's in the manual. No you don't have to dismantle the entire car. Just identify the burned out bulb, reach in, give the bulb holder a gentle but firm counter-clockwise twist and out it comes. Grab the bulb in the housing, push it down and twist it out counter-clockwise. Put the new one in the housing, push it down and twist it clockwise until it 'seats.' Gently wipe the bulb clean of any fingerprints, grease, etc. with a cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol. Let it dry to 5 seconds. Put the housing back in the tail light assembly. Twist it in clockwise.
