Quick question, why do you say (Gone, Thank gd) within your signature referring to your X? :/

I can feel better/smoother throttle response and 2L/100kms less cruising @ 60km/h even uphill,so..to me I've got a fried MAF since unplugging it makes a difference for better...I've got a SES light on,but I don't give a S...about that, well I am gonna need a new MAF for sure..another question about a brand..I just checked and the MAF housing was Bosch branded, but the sensor itself is such LC or something like that..WTF?

I had the save feeling when I disconnected my MAF for the first time tonight. I just feel how much smoother the car drives I was really amazed. It feels as if like 75 to 80% of the jerkish/heavy pulling feeling of my 4.4i is gone. I might look into changing my O2 Sensors now as well. I am going to purchase the VW one since its the same thing but cheaper.

Amazon.com: 98 99 00 VW Beetle Jetta Golf Air Flow Meter 06A906461A 0280218002: Automotive < For a link.

Thanks to everyone for help on the issue, I really appreciate everyones input and help.

My X had an extremely poor reliability record and endured parts failures very frequently. I grew tired of spending countless hours and $'s dealing with it. Also, the X was purchased as a safe and reliable vehicle for my wife to drive my child around in. But after stranding them on the side of the road the 2nd time, my wife refused to drive it ever again citing safety issues. The X pretty much wore out its welcome in my driveway by failing to live up to the reasons for which it was purchased . . . safety and reliability.

Please don't take my answer as an insult to your vehicle or brand. I just had a very poor experience with my X. I have always had rediculously good reliability with my Lexuses so I just went back with experience has taught me. It's a huge relief for me to know that my wife and child will make it to their destination without mechanical failure and to know that I won't have to spend another weekend under the hood. I guess that's why it's in my signature.

if the maf is working and unpluggiung it will make the x smoother, it sounds like the control parameters programmed to control the fuel amount are sub-optimal?

Just called our local dealer and was told that new MAF would be in closer to $ 700 CAD plus tax...WTF?
Question..is that safe enough to plug an aftermarket one of ebay?
Did anybody swap and got a good result?

I had a bad MAF and decided to go cheap on the replacement. The replacement MAF ended up having more problems than the one it replaced. I ended up putting in a Bosch and all the problems went away. Take this for what it's worth.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
Do some research to track down the threads with the info... because if I remember volkswagon uses the same MAF sensors we use on a few applications and you can get just the sensor part without the housing, and for cheaper.
