Creaking noise from back

I've noticed a creaking noise from the back of the X5 when starting from a dead stop and sometimes when coming to a dead stop. I hear it when I press the accelerator, not when I let my foot off the brake. The noise is there even if I accelerate gently.

If I gun it from a slow roll I don't hear it, I only hear it from a dead stop. As long as I'm already moving, I never hear it, regardless of how hard I accelerate or decelerate.

Any ideas as to the cause? Bushings? Levelling air pump?

Yep, I had the exact same noise.
It turned out to be the rear axle carrier bushes - part number two here:

I think i have the same problem, is it something you fixed yourself or did you have to let a garage or the main dealer repair it

I had a go at doing it but it was a mare.
I'm pretty handy with a spanner but having got half way through one of the bushes, I had to give up!
Unless you've got the right tool to press the old bush out and the new one in you're better of getting the dealer to do it.

I just got a quote from my local dealer for the same thing, it was $1210.

Included changing all 4 bushings i beleive. Its 7hrs labour @ $103/hr + the parts.

I only had two bushed replaced, the other two were ok.
Bushes = £78 + VAT
Fitting = £183 + VAT

My cars got to go back to the dealer - they fitted one of the bushes incorrectly
The bushes are a "thrust" (I think thats the right description) type and need to be installed with the right orientation - there are markings on them to show front to back alignment.
When I got the car home I checked them and one of the two had been fitted 90 degrees out.
Been back to the dealer who confirmed the problem - waiting for them to tell me what they're going to do about it........
