So my Indy mechanic just called with the bad news.
He replaced the broken Aux fan but found that the compressor is not working properly. He said it is kicking on, but that the readings are not up to par.
He suspects that the Aux fan might have broken without my knowledge and with continued use of the AC, the compressor was damaged causing the AC to stop cooling completely. I am pretty sure I read about this on the forum while searching the subject.

FYI, this Indy is a BMW master Tech who left an Indiana BMW dealership to come here to Atlanta and open a Mini Cooper performance Shop (minis are VERY popular here in Atl). The guy is a mini enthusiast with a huge backing of the Local Mini community that just so happens to know the in and outs of BMWs. He is highly recommended by everyone. (not sure if Im allowed to name his shop on the forum, so i'll refrain)

anyways... here is where things get interesting.
He did an evac and recharge of the freon system and found only 8oz in a system that holds 16oz! So why did I pay $190 two days ago at the BMW dealership? I asked my Indy if there was any way that 50% of the freon could leak that fast without a trace (remember, the dealership said that after recharge no leaks were found). He said no, it would have been easily detectable.

So I'm going to speak with the BMW service manager to let him know what happened. I think I deserve a full refund of my money. Intentionally or not, the service I paid for was not performed.

I agree with the other members, that kindness will get me further. That was the first thing my Indy said when I told him what I was gonna do

wish me luck, I'll keep you all posted

Rui

If I know him like I do, the roof of the Sistine chapel, or of Jessica Biel in her birthday suit...

Just had a thought... This would also explain why the AC was not blowing cooler air at highway speeds after the dealership "supposedly" refilled the freon, wouldn't it?

I just got the same experience from the dealership here. I have a brake light out, in my other car, and this is the first time they have seen it. The first time they replaced fuses and charged me about $300. They actually let me leave with the brake light not working!! When I found out two days later, I took it back. They said they would need to replace the circuit board. Another $120 plus labor. I said hell no and got an original Mercedes part for $44. After over an hour in my garage I changed it out. Still not working! Did hours of research and found that the SAM unit is either bad or simply needed reset. I took it in this morning and told them to reset my SAM and if it didn't work, I would find a new unit somewhere. After 5 hours! They finally said, the SAM unit is fried (no shi#) I just said that. $125 bill and still not working brake light. Should I ask for my money back?

okay, i didn't want to start a new thread but i'm also having issues with my 03.

there are no leaks. i had the system drained and recharged last week ... i paid for that service as well ...and then on a hot day NO AC.
my AC works on a cool day but not when you need it. it seems as though i am getting outside air?

tijanaw (member here), seems to think its the FSR but i just spoke to the guy who wired my new lights and he said it sounds like the compressor.

only warm air is coming out of the vents. and the air that does come out is not as loud/powerful as it has been in the past.

i really don't want to pay $$ towards something that won't fix the problem. is a new compressor expensive?

i appreciate any thoughts/opinions. OP i hope you don't mind be it seems we *may* be having the same AC issue.

The FSR only has to do with the fan speed, nothing to do with the actual cooling.

One question as I am a bit confused... If there are no leaks why did you have it sucked down and recharged???
