06 X5 HID Advice
Hello, I have an 06 x5, and of-course the day time lights are an ugly yellow halogen. So, after doing some reading here looks like the kit to get is the HIDNY HID-102HL > HID Dual (HILO)Beam Digital Conversion Kit - HIDNY.COM HID Xenon Conversion Kit & Auto Lights, Parts from NYC digital kit. Now question, when I install this kit the daytime running light will always be on, however, it will just be a nice HID rather than the ugly yellow halogen correct? So how does this look, anyone have any pictures? Also, I beleive this OEM setup is an H1 buld that services daytime low beam and hi beam I beleive, so I think I should get the HILO HID kit correct? I've seen others that have turned off their daytime running lights and just have the angel eyes on, how do you do that without the compute complaning? Is this programmged at the dealer maybe? I guess I should also upgrade the angel eyes bulb as well, with the HIDNY LED HID-331 > 5W BMW ANGEL EYES for E39/E60/E61/E65/E66/E53/E83/E87 - HIDNY.COM HID Xenon Conversion Kit & Auto Lights, Parts from NYC so those are a nice white as well. Finally, this HIDNY kit is this solution a total plug and play using the OEM harness? I can't find any install instructions on the HIDNY website. Thanks in advance.

If you install these HID's your going to install these on your High beam to get ride of the yellow DRL. For the DRL to be disabled and Angel eyes to be running than you have to get that reprogrammed or tap a wire. And the Angel Eye bulbs from HIDny are not the best many members reported it burning out every 3 to 4 months so DO NOT GET THEM. Get Either Angle Eye Brights or Mtech v2.0.

Thanks for the response. So when I install this kit, it will then effectively turn off the DRL? If the angels eyes are not on I can live with that. If I did want to tap the wire, any instructions anywhere for doing that? Thanks

Have the dealer turn off the DRLs. It's a way cleaner solution, and if you do swap to HIDs in the DRL/high beam, you then can't really flash drivers to tell them to go, etc.

I'm more confused now than when I started.
A. This HIDNY kit, replaces my OEM halogen low beam hi beam H1 bulb? B. If I install the kit, does this kit only give me high beam HID lighting? C. What happens to DRL? Essentially with this kit I won't have any DRL (ok with me)? D. HIDNY has a low beam hi beam HID kit, does this give you a DRL HID solution? E. Is the kit plug n play? Thanks |

A. HID Xenon Digital Ballast Conversion Kit HIDNY single Beam, replaces Low Beam Or High Beam.
B. You can install this as a high beam. C. Halogens Running DRL Uses less energy to make them dimly lit, and when fully on they use a higher wattage. HID's Require you to use it on the higher wattage therefor if you do not reprogram for DRL to be disabled the HID on the high beam will have problems. D. I dont think you can run the HID kits on a lower wattage, they have a minimum threshold but i am not sure what that threshold is. E. This kit is Plug and play, iv done it with no knowledge what so ever. Hope i helped

Thanks YII that really helps. Just one more question, you say this can be installed as a high or low beam. If I install the high beam HID kit, I will not have DRL, does the computer complain about it? Or will I have to have the dealer disable it? Based on this info and the fact that I rarely use high beams. I think on my next trip to the dealer for warranty service, I just may have them disable the DRL, and I will invest in the MTEC LED bulbs for the angel eyes.

BTW my friend can turn off the DRLs for you. PM me for details (he is a former BMW tech with all of the BMW software). |

So I'm still confused. This isn't making sense to me. The inner head light assembly is where the DRL OEM H1 bulb is installed that serves as the DRL and HI Beam. If I replace this bulb with an HID kit, am I not going to remove the OEM H1 bulb with an HID bulb from the aftermarket HID KIT? IF I do that, how exactly would I leave the OEM H1 BULB still installed for a high beam lighting? So, one of these HID kits basically gives you a DRL HID solution? What am I missing? Also, people are buying the HIDNY HID kit and I guess just ignore the error that the computer gives off when it starts up and checks for the correct resistance on the circuit for an H1 bulb thus throwing an error code? Below is a pic of my head light assembly.
