Fault Codes

Hi I have a BMW X5 2002 E53 4.4i with the following fault codes. can someone help me identify what the codes mean please? thanks in advance. Tony.

114/8 - P0345 - cam shaft position sensor 'A' circuit bank 2
28/255 - P1158 - fuel trim adaptation additive low bank 1
29/255 - P1158 - fuel trim adaptation additive low bank 2
26/66 - P0171 - system too rich bank 1
40/1 - P0420 - catylist system efficiency below threshold bank 1
160/36 - ????? - O2 sensor bank 2 sensor 2 ?????? not sure on this one

2) Any idiot/warning lights on?

Hi the only symptom is sometimes the tickover is a little slow. Other than that the car drives perfectly. I reset all codes two days ago and I have driven 70 miles before the engine management light has come back on again. Messages from the OBC is as per my last post.

I have ordered a new cam shaft sensor which I will replace this week. I cleaned the MAF sensor this weekend and noticed the main air intake manifold hose was very loose - infact it came off in my hand. I replaced this correctly so this may have cured / improved the vacuum leak which could have been responsible for 26, 28, 29, and 40 above as a large vacuum leak would mean that the car is running lean.

I will check which error codes are still present tonight when i get home. I am hoping it is just the 114/8 - P0345 code which is left

P0171 is actually System too Lean (Bank 1) which would be consistent with a vacuum/air leak.
OBD-II DTC: P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1)

I believe your Engine Management light is equivalent to our SES (Service Engine Soon) light. This means that something is wrong in the emissions related electronics.

Definitely make sure MAF is good and no leaks along the intake and exhaust too.

Check that link. Some possibilities are you could have a bad O2 sensor, exhaust leak or damaged catalytic converter.

Not sure what you mean by "tickover". Do you mean when it kicks down to a lower gear? You have a loss of power?

I meant if your OBC (displayed in the cluster) showed any error/fault messages not actual OBD2 codes.

Ii think he means tick over as in startup. That is a lot of codes. I would say he needs to check for air leak around the maf, boot, tb. He should also check his power, as in voltage. Link in my sig how to do this.

Yes I did mean tickover at start up. It is erratic with the revs jumping around.

I have just checked the voltage readings. I had 12.2v before I started the engine. 13.5v with the engine running.

I followed the link in your signature to unlock the OBC tests and on test 9 the voltage read 13.5v

I did have a flat battery at the weekend and charged it up for 24 hours. I dont know what caused the flat battery though. I have noticed that when I am driving along sometimes the SAT NAV screen flashes off for a split second and then comes back on again - is this voltage related?

My check engine light came on again tonight after 70 miles of driving and I checked the codes. the following came up again.

I will change the cam sensor at the weekend - maybe this will help with the errors. I am thinking that I may have another vacuum leak somewhere in the engine bay or that one or more of the O2 sensors are faulty?

The nav flashing is a voltage problem. Drive around with test 9 running. See how the voutage behaves.
