Driver's Door Window / Mirror Controls
I just purchased a 2004 X5 3.0 and I'm in the process of identifying and sorting the various issues it has. I tested everything I could think of before buying this vehicle, but sure enough the day after I bring it home I notice the folding mirrors won't retract and the windows won't roll down from the driver's door control unit. I pulled the control unit out fromt he door, and pulled the connectors off and reinstalled them. There's no sign of corrossion on the connectors, but after putting them back on the controls seemed to work again. Later the in the day the controls died once more; this time I was able to get them working by simply wiggling the wires on the side of the control unit. Can anyone venture a guess as to where the problem is? Could there be a problem with the connectors, could the door wiring harness have frayed wires, or could the control unit itself be on the fritz? I've tried searching the forum here but didn't find any discussions about these two problems happening at the same time. Also, on the off chance it's related, the driver's power lock doesnt' work. I tried pulling the fuse (as suggested in another thread) and it didn't change anything. I know the door itself is getting power as even at the worst of times the driver's mirror will move when I try to fold them in. Thanks in advance, Trevor ------------------------ '04 X5 3.0 '90 M5 Eurospec |

I would be willing to bet the door controller is bad. I changed mine and it fixed all kinds of crap! I paid $117 shipped for a new one.

Thanks for the reply. I'll go ahead and order a new one then.

When you go to install the new one, disconnect the battery before you take the old one off. I pulled mine off with the battery connected and the vehicle wouldn't recognize the new one at all until I let it sit for awhile with the battery disconnected. Then the antiskid yellow idiot lights cam on but as soon as I started driving they went out. These aren't like your Dad's chevy to work on I've learned. It will shut the power off to stuff itself if it thinks it is faulty.

Thanks. I didn't disconnect the battery before pulling the old one off but maybe I got lucky.

Right. My new one wouldn't work at all until I disconnected the battery for a pretty long time, installed it, and then reconnected the battery.

I've got no clue if the switch has anything to do with the locks. It would be great if it did as my driver's door power lock doesn't work.
