bmw tech or scam ?????

some guy came up to me last week said your x looks great but needs to be lowered about 1 to 2 inches i said thanks but i don't like to mess with my factory ride high control because it turns to be a nightmare i like the way it looks.
He said no i can do it in 1/2 hr $100 no need for computer just need my 10mm wrench and 2 jack stands and you can tell me how lower you want to be

i ask him how and what are you talking about what are you going to do then he explains there are 2 ride hight sensors 1 in the front and 1 in the back, i will adjust them to sit bit lower thats all. i said are you a bmw tech or something because lot of ppl want to lower there x it cant be that easy fix.

anyone has to say something about this

Trust no one. Lowering your air ride will give u poor ride quality.

First off, that would only work if you have 4 wheel air suspension.

Secondly, there are 4 ride height sensors on a vehicle with full air ride, two in the rear for all air ride vehicles, one in the front just for the self leveling headlights on vehicle with rear air only or two in the front for 4 wheel air.

And third, the sensors aren't made to be adjustable which is why they sell adjustable links for permanent lowering or intrax modules to let it stay at the factory lower setting from the dash switch while driving.

I think he would end up bending the mounting bracket locating tabs out of the way and just crudely rotate and/or bend the sensor holding bracket to "adjust" the ride height. If he were a BMW tech he could lower the vehicle through the GT1 or ISID systems in the dealer if he knows anything about the system. Just ask member twinspoppa as he did this himself with his laptop GT1 on his X5.

my 4.8is has 4 wheel air suspension.

i called the guy ask him the same you explained above he said yes i am going to change the position of the sensors thats all (is it safe to do? what about gt1?) yes i have made custom brackets which are adjustable thats why i am charging you $100 and yes it can be done by gt1 i can do it for you but it will drop it by 3 to 4 inches you may not like sitting too low and ride quality will be poor and air springs wont last too long.

and yes he is a bmw tech wont allow me to post his name or contact info but he may be reading this as a member lol

This sounds along the lines of the guy who comes up to you in a parking lot and offers to fix the body damage on your car from his van! No idiot who walks up to me in a parking lot touches ANY of my cars. If the guy was that good, he would either own a shop or be working at one...not trying to scam in a parking lot. Just step back and think about this one.
