ipod and my x5

My X5 4.4i has the nav and is equipped with an ipod connector in the glovebox. Once i plug my ipod in and i can see the song names on my screen and flip thru them like a charm. One thing that bothers me is a list of songs. I cannot scroll thru my ipod as the bmw logo is displayed and i can only scan through or randomize the songs on the screen. No list of songs!! Is this by design? or am i missing something here. Please help, unfortunately my X doesn't have the 6 cd changer and radio is retarded sometimes. So ipod is my only option for now and storing in a 30 GB ipod - the songs can be numerous! thanks.
