Very, very curious find while replacing 3.0 waterpump and fan clutch

I had the front torn down and bellypan off, and while under the X5 I glanced up to find the radiator drain plug. The radiator was already empty and I noticed a grey weatherproof BMW plug connection on the bottom of the expansion tank, which I rotated to remove, thinking there might be coolant in there. What I discovered was a long sensor wire loop running up into the expansion tank, attached to that plug, and most disconcerting was that no wiring harness was connected to the grey plug, nor was there one dangling nearby that I could see! This must be the coolant level sensor, and there's no harness to plug it in!

What the WHAT? It's number 8 (LEVELLING SWITCH), and 13 (Universal socket housing/uncoded/2 POL./ 1/ 61138365340/$2.98/only in conjunction with) must be missing.....yikes!

OK. So did you have the harness as well, if yours was pre wired, and did you connect it?

There is no coolant level switch for low tech cluster model.
