cv joints and axles

I own a 02 x5 3.0 with only 97K or 61K miles and i need to replace either my outer CV joint and boot or the whole axle on both sides. Dropped by the dealership just to see how much they would charge for the repair and they quoted me:

-approx $3000 CDN to replace both axles ($1700 parts and 7 hours labour) or approx #2100 for just the outer cv joints but still 7 hours labour.

Just wondering if this sounds right to people. Going to be calling about tomorrow to the indie shops. If anyone knows of a good place in the Vancouver/lower mainland, Canada area would be great.

Because of the cost, I'm also thinking about getting rid of my lovely x5...your thoughts?
