But seriously... I searched the forum for "problems" and came up with a ton of stuff. Here's a good post for you to start with: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...k-forward.html

6 spd...jealous; my '01 is a 5 spd.
Obviously, the clutch feel/friction point should be good, with
no weird sounds coming from clutch pedal on depress, or let out/engage.

Shifter should be smooth, maybe a little rubbery/vague, but
that is normal.

'06 is a lot newer than mine, but the usual things: window regulators,
dash pixels, coolant reservoir and related plumbing, belts or belt noise,
brake pads, etc. As Werewolf suggested, there are pages of threads
on the usual glitches on E53 cars, here. My list may not cover all the
possibilities, otoh, you may have a glitch free car. Our '01 is still pretty bulletproof,
and the manual trans vs the auto, reduces much of the potential headaches.

I would have the key "run" by dlr, to see what the maint history has been, etc.
I've driven several cars around NYC that are manual and while not fun,
it is not intolerable.
Good Luck with your new car...
BR, mD
