2003 3.0 burning 1 qt oil/2500 mi normal?

Hey guys i have a 2003 X5 with 72000 miles on the clock. And the most recent oil change has been done by dealer at 67000 miles and it started complaining about the oil level and the dealer topped it off with two quarts of oil. Is it normal for the x5 to burn this much oil? Does not seem normal to me.

This has been covered quite a bit; if you do a search you will find hours upon hours of reading on this. As a pint of reference, I too have an 03 3.0 with (now) 67k on it. I have had it since January of this year and am on my second oil change interval. I drive the hell out of it. I burned exactly one quart in 10k.

Normal. Most manufacturers will call it excessive when it gets to be more than 1 qt per 1000 miles. Mine burned 1 litre per 5000 km, about 3200 miles.

BMW/Castrol 5W-30 in five successive BMW six cylinder vehicles. Of our two current vehicles, one uses zero oil (X3 3.0) and one uses a litre every 8000 km (535).
