the truck is CPO so I wouldn't worry about it much. When I bought my '05 4.8is I asked for a service history and looked into what was inspected to get it certified. Came to find out that the oil change was overdue (over 1 year since last change regardless of miles and BMW recommends changing it) so I was given a complimentary oil change.

Having a CPO should really be worry free.. I just got a new tranny installed and it cost me $50.

Well back where I started after dealer diagnosis. Diagnosis included taking for test drive, checking for leaks. That was all they did, they even managed to not find the auto headlight issue, but they checked in the daytime when the auto headlights do not kick in the low beam xenon. Ugh what a frustrating company to deal with, so after some talking with service manager it is going back in for a real diagnosis. As far as BMW Canada they said if dealer doesnt find anything, no matter what type of diagnosis they do (simple or complex) there 'is no other step' unless the BMW dealer finds anything, and even then it must be proved to be BMW fault by dealer.
SO anyways I am just going to push this all aside, hope they can fix the other issues like the headlights and belt squeals and drive my X5 and sell it before aftermarket warrenty is up. I dont even think I will open up the 2nd oil analysis I am waiting on...

I would take my X5 in to get repairs and the dealer would always say they can't reproduce the problem. When ever I have an issue now I take a photo. The last time I took it in I took a copy of the photos and gave them to the service person and they fixed all the items that they could not reproduce before. It is hard for them to say you don't have a problem when you take a photo of a headlight not on and the computer saying headlight issue.

Now that's a damn good idea. I thunk my camera is going to stay in the car for a while so I can get some photos and video of the noises. Thanks for the advice

FYI... Every time I buy a car (used) I change the oil within the first week without fail. Had two cars I was test driving fail because of oil and other items. One was a catastrophic engine failure (audi A6; wrong oil type, low oil, wrong air filter letting debris into engine, tires 15-19 psi too high, etc...). My test drives are for 3 or 4 days now. Once I purchase one, I change all filters and oil as well as check brakes and air pressure. BMW X5 I got in Jan I even changed spark plugs at 65k just to be safe.

I can certainly see why you would be doing this, its a great idea. Wish i spent more time with the car before I bought it but oh well I guess I have learned my lesson. Take it home for the weekend before you buy!

As for updates I finally recieved my second oil analysis back and heres what they said
"Thats much better, running oil 3500km helped wear improve nicely. While iron and copper are still reading about average you should note that some metal is from carry over. While potassium dropped quite a bit it is still reading well above average. Without significant sodium level we are still hesititant to call it a coolant leak. We didnt mention last time but seeing silicon still reading about average makes us think the air filter might be lettering dirt get in, so we suggest checking that system for leaks. Stay at 3500 km oil changes for now. "
I will scan copy for values later. So improved but still theres a bunch of stuff still left in the engine. Nothing like throwing out 120$ worth of bmw synthetic every month and a bit, oh well its for the greater good I guess!

Still haven't had the headlights fixed or engine start up issue, they cant replicate it which is really annoying. So until next time I guess..other than that I have just learned to live with the qwerks and just try to enjoy the X for what it is, a damn amazing vehicle to drive!

Well that's not the worst news. Sounds like you could be ok. Just a thought (and I didn't read every word of every post), but you did take the samples mid-stream right?

They are saying your silicone levels are high... do they understand what your cylinder sleeves are made of? This isn't a cast iron block... it has alusil sleeves. Maybe you should give them this link to look at.
