X5 Sunroof seal

I came out yesterday morning to find water dripping from the light and controls in the panel just behind the windshield in the roof. Seems that the sunroof seal leaked. The dealer says that it is a KNOWN PROBLEM, for which there is an approved fix. Only problem with the fix...the parts will take 3 weeks to arrive!!!

BEWARE.

I had my sunroof seal replaced earlier this month, but local dealer up here in Canada got the new seal kit shipped up from Spartanburg in 3 days.

My dealer (Westchester BMW, is being really good about this. The service dept tells me that BMW had a fix, but found that fixed cars were returning with new leaks. So they have come up with a new fix, but it will not be available for 3 weeks. The dealer is keeping my car indoors and protected while we wait, and I am driving one of the loaner cars. That is the kind of dealership that I can feel good about recommending.

Do you have the panaramic sunroof or the regular sunroof (pre-2004)?

Mine is a pano. It has been tight and dry for 2 weeks now, but thanks for the additional info. Dealer up here has been great about handling this under warranty and they have done few panos this month alone with the problem.

My sunroof is the panoramic one. I debated about getting it because of its size and the structural issues that might result from having a gaping hole in the roof, but resolved the issue in favor or the engineers at BMW having the design ability to fortify what remains of the roof to give the car the rigidity and structural stability that it needs. I hope that this leak (and the other fellow in another thread with his creaky sunroof) are not symptoms of a poorly engineered roof.
