wheel spacers

hey all,
i just installed a whole bunch of exterior upgrades (titanium lower grilles, titanium skid plate, running boards, and LeMans fender flares), and am wanting to install some wheel spacers on my OEM style 87's to add more stance. I use wheel locks and would want to keep using them (hence using my original wheel bolts). from my understanding this would be possible if I used DRA (NOT DRM) style wheel spacers, which mount to original hub with provided bolts, and then allow the wheel to mount to the spacer with original bolts.

can anyone confirm that my thinking is correct? if so anyone have sizing suggestions and brand (H&R?) and vendor information??

thanks so much

Hi there.

Your thinking is spot on. I used DRA for my winter setup DRA60 rear and DRA50 front to get 30mm per side at the back and 25mm per side at the front.

The original bolts and locknuts bolt straight onto the H&R spacers.

Get a long-bar torque wrench to fit them though. Actually fitting is not so bad but trying to get them off last week, with the car jacked up was quite tricky.

My sizes were for 17" 235 tyres. I dont think theres any need with the 275 and 315 summers that are on now.

As far as handling and driving with them on. No difference whatsoever. They just look better

Cheers.

Kev.

You have two choices for spacer sizes from H&R which allow you to keep your existiing existing lug locks. The 25mm DRA Wheel Spacers (found HERE) and the 30mm DRA Wheel Spacers (found HERE). HERE is a pdf which shows you how to measure for spacers so you can decided which set up will be best for you.

so i know there have been a million threads on this, but i cant find specific answers to my questions so here goes.

i have oem staggered 87's and have just added lemans flares. i want to add spacers to regain the poke that i had before i added the flares. I definitely want to go at least 25 in the rear and want to add fronts as well. i have read that adding different size spacers in the front and rear can cause suspension issues. true or false? also, i want to be able to re-use my stock wheel bolts so that i can keep my wheel locks. from my understanding, spacers smaller than 20mm cannot be made in the DRA style (re-using OEM wheel bolts). true or false? would i have problems if i went with 25mm all around, 30mm all around, or 25mm front and 30mm rear?

thanks so much in advance for the help

False, I have tons of guys running different spacers front to rear on the X5 with zero issues.

True, in order to reuse your stock bolts you need to go to at least a 25mm H&R spacer.

With your flares you should able able to clear 30mm all the way around. If you like the "staggered" look you can run the 30mm in the rear and the 25mm in the front to give the car a "staggered stance"

True. Adding any spacers can cause suspension issues, as you are changing the geometry. If you have the incorrect wheel offset, then adding spacers to bring the wheel back to where it should be (where the vehicle designer intended it to be) will actually help with suspension issues. Placing the wheel where it wasn't designed to be relative to the hub loads up suspension components and wheel bearings, and changes the steering geometry by altering the scrub radius. Expect more wear on suspension components and bearings, and changes to the steering response due to the scrub radius dimension. You may or may not wear front tires faster. No appreciable impact on rear tire wear.

Even by adding rear spacers would cause suspension issues as well as changes to steering response?

Not will, can

Steering response changes are due to front spacers
