What's my 2003 X5 worth?
I am considering trading in my 2003 X5, 82,000 miles, auto, leather, new tires and brakes (by BMW) at 72,000 miles. Loaded. Any ideas what a reasonable trade in value should be? The trade would be on a 2011 X6.

In any rate, I'll chekc Auto-trader/Craigslist/KBB/Edmunds to get a feeling on how much yours should be. |

An '03 with 82K miles I would say trade-in would be about $12K.

As it's been said, it's always best to sell it privately but it is more hassle. As a rule, dealers will not give you more for your trade than what they would pay for the same model at auction or from sister dealers. Usually, they will try to low-ball you. You can pull out the NADA or Kelly's Blue Book on them but they don't care. If I do trade-in a vehicle, I tell them that I expect no less than what they would get at auction...and I ask to see that and won't make a deal until they do. I'm nice and cordial however I keep the thought in the back of my mind that they are not trying to be my friend...they are trying to extract as much $$ out me as possible.
