Third brake light out

I have had the third brake light out in my 01 X5 for a few months and I finally got around to fixing it. But when I take the spoiler off and get at the brake light assembly, I notice there is no place to replace the bulb. Is the only way that you can replace the bulb is with a whole new assembly, which is over $200 from the dealer? Has anyone else had their light go out on them? I checked the fuses, but I didn't see any that were blown. Any help would be great!
Thanks
Jay

It's an LED light assembly (no bulb to change)...so you would have to buy a new assembly, unfortunately. Do you have power going to the assembly connector? You'll need someone to apply the brake while using a multi-meter to probe the connector for proper voltage...just to make sure it's not the wiring.
