I had exactly what you have about 2 months ago. I too thought it was warped rotors and so did my indy. Ended up being the control arms. Had both control arms replaced, now it's shudder free.

I was thinking the control arms too hence why im a little confused as to what to replace first. If its the control arms then its usually the upper one from what I can gather.

Might do them first before the rotars as they are alot cheaper to replace

most likely the rotors/pads

if its the control arms, then its not as worn out yet because it only appears during braking. if your ca bushings are really worn, then you will feel the wobble even when you're not braking, you'll feel the wobble progress as you speed up.

If i were you i drive my X to either dealer or indy shop to check it instead posting here without fixing the problem. Guess what? It happened to me on the way home yesterday. My steering wheel was vibrating when i applied on brake pedal at 75-80mph. At first i thought it's brake rotor or bad pads, brake system look good to me. I jack it up and checking lower control arm, it's good, checking wheel suspension joint it's shaking and i feel it's loosing.

Today, after work i drove to BMW dealer for wheel suspension joint (part# 31126756491) for $70.50 - jacking X up, removing the damage wheel suspension joint and install the new one in.

Testing for 15 miles on highway, driving 80mph and applied for brake - wheel vibration was gone, it is smooth now.

However after tightening that bolt and putting new rotors and pads i have vibration when accelerating or just driving nothing to do with braking anymore. So the only thing i have not changed is tires and balance and ive changed control arms and bushings ...so ill have tires soon so we will see. but definitely check that bolt.
Not sure which bolt you are reffering too here. Is it the one opposite end to the ball joint?

Another observation i made today was when i hit the brakes slowly i get a slight steering wheel shake/wobble/shudder at high and low speeds(up to 10mph). When i hit the brakes moderately at any speed above 10mph there is a significant steering wheel/front end shake/wobble/shudder. However, when the brakes are applied firmly then there is only a slight steering wheel shake/wobble/shudder.
