Make sure you get a FSH, preferably from a dealer, assuming it has been dealer serviced.

Check all the electrics and electronics so that they work. Especially elec windows, sticky sunroof, sticky mirrors. All are common issues.

6sp transmissions have been known to fail, so make sure you drive the car and check all the gearchanges are smooth both up and down. The mileage is less than average. At a guess it's probably in the £15k area. Do you know if it has the 186bhp or 218bhp engine? I can't remember when BMW upped the power. The 218 unit is much smoother and very torquey.

I'm sure other owers will chime in with other suggestions

Thanks for the response.

Its got full BMW service history with 2 stamps in the book. Its due a third service in a few months as its on the last green light.

All the electrics work as they should. The Turbo and sunroof were replaced under warranty about a year ago as these are known problems.

Gear changes are fine and smooth. Works well in sport and manual mode.

I believe its the 218bhp engine. Only problem is that there is a slight wobble at the steering wheel when applying the brakes at low speed such as 20mph. The wiper stalk needs replacing as its broken and a CV boot is split.

He wants 15k like it is and I reckon it will cost about £500 to put right

If it has the six-speed auto then it will have the upgraded engine that also came in 2004.

Nice X love the silver on the running board and even the Euro head lights.

Need to remove the towbar at some stage. I quite like the exhaust from the petrol models which come near the rear bumper. Not sure if these fit the diesel model?

Looks very tidy.

There are a few people who have fitted the petrol exhausts. You need to have some fabrication done as the pipes are a different diameter and you have to maintain correct pressures for the turbo and emissions controls. There is a diesel thread on the Board somewhere, or you could try the UK site xdrivers where a lot more dieselheads can be found who may have the answers.
