x5 giving too much smoke
i just bought x5 deisel 2003 model from private seller. i drove it from london to birmingham and it took nearly 2 and half hours. there was no problem. after 10 days i had my car insurance sorted and i drove it for about 10 minutes on 30 mph road. its was giving lot of blue smoke. like there is a fire. everyone was blowing horn. what could be a problem? if there was a problem before i bought it should have been identified when i drove from london to birmingham. please help. thanks in advance.... |

As it's blue and not black/grey, it sounds like a major oil problem or even a leaking turbo centre bearing. If it's throwing that much smoke out thrn it can't be good. What's the power like? Can you here the turbo whistling once it spools up? Have a look at your oil level. Also see if there is any emulsion mix in the coolant or under the oil cap. Are there any signs of oil leaks under the hood, or nasty noises from the engine itself once it has warmed up?
Is it worse at idle or when under acceleration? There are so many possibles that it's a tad difficult to be certain. There's a UK site called Xdrivers that has a lot of diesel owners and like here a few BMW teccies who may know more and point you in the right direction. You probably need to get it into a dealer and get a diagnostics check done to see if you have any fault codes showing. What mileage have you got on it?
