Not starting no noise
Ok I'm a noob on here I just got a 2002 4.4 x5 about 5 months ago and for the last couple of months when I would try to start the car sometimes it wouldnt start I turn the key and nothing all I hear is the sound of the fuel pump no cranking or anything....yesterday it didn't start everytjne I tried I would have to turn the key off and keep trying to start it and then turn it off after doin this a number of times it would finally start.. I'm thinking the starter and the ideas?

I just had someone else try to start it while I listened in the engine bay I don't know what a starter soleniod sounds like but I do hear something like a relay making contact on the drivers side...I don't know where the starter is on this car been looking from the top and can't spot it anywhere

What is the sound that you're hearing? When you turn the key, is it a constant click-click-click sound until you let off of the key?

There's the humming of the fuel pump and there a click while the key is turned to start and then a click when the key is turned back

Hi there, my 2001 3.1 does this too. It's a bad key. Reprogramming the key every few days does the trick, but it will need a new key for the long run, I'm sure.
