Please! anyone, a big favor!
Can someone please lock their E53 x5 and peek in the window and tell me if they see any blinking red light on the clown nose or the radio? I just need some kind of indication to know if I am dealing with a dead battery or a key remote issue. I don't have nav so it is the business cd radio. Thank you very much! Here is the background: I am currently dealing with a locked car that is not responding to any remote unlock. My battery was only changed less than 6 month ago, car was driven daily with no problems but was not driven for only about 5 days last weeks and now it won't unlock from the remote... My key lock is not working due to the fact that the lock was broken into twice during my first 3 years of ownership and we gave up. The car is on it's 7th year and we never had a problem with the remote unlocking until now... I posted about being locked out yesterday and am hoping someone PM me the secret unlock info so I can try and get in without breaking the window. I tried the wedge method and the window does not budge... I did manage to put a scratch to the top of the car and pry up the top chrome surround around the window... I am thinking if it is a dead battery then the secret method and breaking the small back window might not work since they require power... Anyone know how to charge the battery from the lights in the back? I would really like to avoid a tow to the dealer. Thanks for any info It is a 2004 X5 4.4, I was hoping to keep the car another 2 years but stuff like this worries me. Last edited by jimny; 10-25-2010 at 08:17 AM. Reason: Spelling |

The clown nose is the alarm indicator. It should blink at short intervals once the car is locked. The radio is supposed to turn off once you lock the car.
5 days idleness should not cause any issues on any good standing battery. For example, I had an E60 idle for 2 months and started the car without a problem when I got back. The most usual method I've seen in such cases is to open the hood through the kidney grill and then power up the car through positive plug under the hood. That of course, if flat battery is the culprit. |

jimny ... do you have AAA? If so, ask them, since you're already paying for that service.

I don't see the blink on the clown nose...
Seems like I might have a dead battery. Maybe it is a short I need to look into. One problem at a time... Duh!No AAA, I have roadside through my insurance but I thought I appeal to a more E53 knowledgeable group before getting a tow driver that wants to jimmy my door or smash my window... Thanks for the PM SuaveX5, I replied with a few questions if you don't mind. |
