Just took my wife's X-5 in to put snow tires on and noticed that being 20 degrees outside, the heater is blowing cold despite the temp controls in the 80's. If I take it out of the auto mode and push the defrost button, heat pours out. Besides the obvious solution to my query, any ideas?

Are the dots on the center dash vent blue or red? If blue, turn them until you have them in the red.

I had some thing simular yesterday had mine on 32c just trying to warm the car up quickly and was on auto was on real low then I guess when the car got warm enough just blew out real hot on full fan speed. I just put it down to car being cold so could not preduce enough heat.

Yah I don't understand why they add the red/blue selector. If you choose heat and set the "digital" controls, why have a manual control as well?

Some people don't want really hot air blowing in their faces, so they can moderate the temperature coming out the top vents, while the foot vents blow hot.
