Suspension Question
Took my 2006 4.8is in for a "self leveling suspension inactive" code that popped up the other day on the dash. I know I know "use the search button" I have and cannot seem to find an answer. My passenger front bag seems to leak sometimes and settles in the furthest position down and I will pump it back up and it will do it again. Well I took it to BMW a week ago and the whole time it was there it never settled it just stayed in the normal position. So this morning when I pick it up it did it to me again. I turned around took it back to them and left it and just got a phone call saying it was the bag that was leaking. Correct me if im wrong but if the bag was leaking, wouldn't it constantly leak and not just sometimes. My dealer has a bunch of pricks that work there and because I bought it from a different dealership they never want to help me and I feel that they are not looking over everything. My X5 is still under warranty and they are quoting me $2500 to fix it.... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hey Will,
I have a 2004 4.8IS; had similar problems. My driver side would sag and my "self leveling suspension inactive" code would come up on my dash as well. I ended up spending $1000.00 to change the module because they said it was bad. The air bag suspension will do just what you are describing. Mine would go for a few days no problem then it would sag. I ended up replacing both front suspension air bags. Once one goes bad, the other side gets strained and it will be a matter of time before it goes as well. I took my X to Cosmo Motors in Hickory, NC. I know its far from Al; but they got me both front air suspension bags for about half of the price that the BWM dealerships were quoting me. And the bag itself was a rebuilt bag with a lifetime warrenty. Go on line and check out there website www.cosmomotorsonline.com the service Managers name is Mike. Hope this helps you out. |

My '05 4.8 did the same thing on the drivers side / replaced air strut, and 2 weeks later, passenger side started acting up. Also had a bad rattle on the offending corner when going over depressions in the road. Replaced both struts with rebuilts' from Arnott Industries @ $ 299.00 each. Everything now works great and is quiet on bumps.
