New X5 3.0l owner

Hi everyone. My wife and I just bought a 2003 X5 after wanting one for literally YEARS now. It has 82,000 miles on it and we couldn't be happier. I've been a big BMW fan for a while and have owned several in the past (79 320i, 81 528i, 87 535i, 89 535i, 90 525i, 90 535i, 91 535i, 98 328i). I told my wife if we did get an X5, it had to be the inline-6 model, as I enjoyed working on the old M30 cast iron block. We took a risk with our current 97 740il though with the 4.4l V-8 but so far she's held up nicely with 215k on the clock.

Enough of my rambling, I do have a couple questions about our new X5. Are there any online stores that sell the OEM towing package versus the dealership directly? (not interested in aftermarket) Secondly, has anyone ever replaced their rearview mirror with the autodimming model and does it require any recoding of the OBC?

I've been a silent stalker on this site for a couple weeks now and am impressed with the level of knowledge I've seen thus far. I look forward to reading more posts and tips about the X5 (and hopefully contribute once I tear through and gain some knowledge about the X5).

i'm not sure about the questions you've asked, except about posting pictures

when posting, go to the "manage attachments" part. If youre replying to a thread this requires you to press the "go advanced" button first.

From there, you can upload the photos, no problem!

Most online retailers are a dealership's online store with a small discount (ie. Tischer BMW, Morristown BMW). You could also check out ECSTuning as they offer competitive prices and is a board sponsor.

For uploading images, you could use the forum's method but also many outside websites. Photobucket, Imgur, and Imageshack all host pictures for free and creating an account to manage all those pictures would be advisable.

If you pull them from your computer, straight to this
board, you must reduce the jpegs with a program like
Irfanview.

If you use pics put up on a hosting site like PB or F,
use the pictogram from the dashboard above:

No recoding necessary for the dimming mirror.

Just be careful when you twist the mirror back on...some have reported cracking of the windshield during this process.
