Towbar adaptor Problem
Please excuse my ignorance but I have a a factory fitted BMW detachable towbar fitted to my 2005 X5. I have just fitted the towbar for the first time and as my trailer connector is a 7 pin type had to screw in the 13 to 7 pin adaptor plug. Hey presto all worked well. My problem now is how on earth do you remove the 13 to 7 pin adaptor ????? Please help. Please see pic of adaptor attached to the car.

Hi,
if I understood you right you have been able to mount the 13/7 adaptor but you cannot unmont it ... ?!? Mine has a "ring" in the middle, that needs to be turned around one quarter and then pulled out. This ring is blocked by the 13-pin connectors lid which you need to open a little bit before. Hope that helps. Tried to explain that in the picture. Regards, H |

Hi
Thanks for your reply. Mine does not appear to have a ring on it. I have attached a pic of the adaptor to see if anyone can help me remove it. |

Hi,
seems you have to press here to remove it. See red arrow - and then pull. |

Many Many thanks adaptor now removed, as all things on this car very well engineered, once you know the correct way to fit it is simple.
One point. It is the outer cover which is actually the cover fitted to the cars power point that needs to be pressed to the right hand side, once this is moved the adaptor can then be turned anti clockwise and removed. as per the pic. Cheers Kev |
