Guess I should have known..4.8iS air susp nightmare

So after my 4.8iS got stuck in the off road position for a few days, I had my local dealer in VA check it out and seemingly it failed while being diagnosed. $250 later I had a new ride height sensor installed and it was still not working and ride height was approx 2" higher than stock. The dealer said he did not know where to go to fix it from there so I took it away.

Its now in another dealer here in PA. So far, we are 3 hrs into diagnostics at $115/hr and now it seems they have decided to contact BMW.

They have now told me it has already had one airspring replaced prior to my ownership...not sure what else was done.

Of course , we are 3k out of warranty. I was expecting the worse but by time this post hits the net, I will be close to $500 out of pocket and no better off than when I dropped it of this morning.

Not a good day... but what do I do ? Take it away unfixed and $500 worse off ? Or do I press on and keep throwing $50 bills at it.

Sheesh.

At only 3k out of warranty they may do a good will repair depending on the issue.

Not sure why it would take so long to diagnose it since it is stuck it should be throwing errors. Maybe they just need to reprogram the correct ride height level? I would hope they checked that...

Good suggestion on the good will repair. If we get a total of 5 hrs diagnostics and previous repairs by an authorised dealer with no success, I will go ahead and ask ...it cant harm.

3 whole days in the dealer and they are now telling me its the Control Module. From what I have read here, it makes sense. I have no sagging problems. I will ask them to replace the pump relay first but it seems any problems with the light not coming on tend to be control unit or relay.

In theory they have been talking directly with BMW but I suspect they just are not experienced enough. I had to bite my lip when the service advisor told me this is not a common issue

I have got an agreement on the labor charges thankfully.
