New Struts And Shocks car w/rear only air springs
Are rear air springs rear only same as self-leveling? I can find front struts Blistein KYB Sacks but not much for rear but OEM or BMW. Anyone replaced rear shocks with a car that has rear air spring only ? I would like to have same brand in front and rear. |

I have to give this guys post a bump due to the countless hours I have spent looking for an answer to his exact question.
I have called BavAuto and ECS looking for help and I am having trouble as well finding exactly what I need. I have to be smart and economical about this since my recent tranny experience has put an unexpected dent in the current cash flow situation. What I’m working with: 02' 4.4i SPG rear only self leveling, 95k miles (wish it was a 4.6is) - H&R lowering kit - Springs in front, dealer dropped with computer in rear. - New: lower and upper control arms, bushings, ball joints and sway bar end links. - 3 alignment and balances by dealer - 2 sets of wheels both with new tires balanced multiple times To keep reading to a minimum, I will just bullet and list below: 1.) Ride has progressively become horrendous. It is beginning to feel like I am in a Civic with a high school hack job drop. Struts?? 2.) Extreme pull to right. It will climb the road crown on the highway. Lack of steering wheel return after right hand turn. Steering wheel return is fine on left turn. Pulls right on braking. Sticky caliper?? 3.) Handling has become terrible. I almost feel unsafe on the highway. Excessive body lean on corners. Very slight back and forth on complete stop. Front struts?? 4.) Constant vibration on highway. (more cruising than braking) Rotors?? 5.) Steering wheel is out of control. Ridiculous road feedback and constant vibration/shaking. Without looking I could probably tell you how new the pavement is by how much the steering wheel moves back and forth. Shocks/rotors??? Solutions?: 1.) Full brake kit from iRotors.com? 2.) Or instead, is there anything wrong with these ebay rotors and pads? Drilled, slotted, w/ ceramic pads. BMW X5 3.0i 4.4i 02 03 Drilled Brake Rotors+Ceramic Pad : eBay Motors (item 270531077998 end time Mar-15-10 13:11:49 PDT) 3.) Sachs front shocks from bavauto part# 290239, 290240 on sale for $190 a piece 4.) 3.) KYB front strut mounting kit from ECS - ES# 261084 MFG# 31306779604 ? 5.) 4.) What for the rear though? |

Your extreme pull to the right is very strange, assuming that the dealer had done the alignment correctly. If this is a caliper problem, you should repair it quickly as it could be a cause of other failures and safety problems. Did you feel the T° of the wheels after a run on the highway?

I don't know much about alignment stuff. I wish I knew what I was feeling for. As for the calipers, I think I'm going to replace the front right. Its getting very tiring trying to find the cause of my problems. I just want to enjoy my ride, but it constantly needs maintenance.

For the rear I chose kw shocks, but there 800. There is no other choice for a lowered vehicle. Check your rear balljoints, rear control arm bushings, and check your rear carrier bushings. Goodluck

Has anyone replaced their rear shocks with anything but OEM?
I just can't believe there is no aftermarket shocks for rear with sport and self level air suspension? I am still shopping around for my '03 4.6is. So far what i found was: Fronts : KYB Part 335924 /335925 Rears: Monroe 39051 These were the only ones except the OEMs that are cheap alternatives. I am not sure about the quality though? Anyone has any experience? please share. thanks
