Mobil1 High Milage 5w-30 Oil

Hello, Xperts ,

I'm thinking of switching from the BMW 5w-30 oil to the new Mobil1 oil noted above because I want the seal conditioner that it has built in.

High Milage oils also have higher ZDDP levels than regular oil (1200 if I recall correctly vs. 800 in new oils) which is better for the top end of the older engines. My X5 is a 2001 4.4 and I'm not sure if it is OK to use this oil w/ it.

Does anyone have experience or know if it's OK to make this switch?

Thanks.

Haven't used it myself.

The standard Mobil 1 meets higher specs according to the Mobil 1 product data sheets.

High Mileage 5w-30 appears to have more detergents, and is recommended for cleaning up engines that have been running on non-synthetic oil, particularly when doing consecutive hot flushes to clean out an engine.

I would stay with the standard product.

i used it on an oil change this spring, and plan to use that or castrol high mileage this fall/winter oil change. my hope too was that it will condition seals and maybe slow some leaking. (and it seemed to, but maybe it was in my head. i was unable to verify cause i did not drain the oil last)

when my tranny was rebuilt, which is still good, they had to drain the oil and they changed the rear main seal... i asked them to put mobil 1 5w-30 in and i'm sure they did... not the high mileage stuff and i haven't seen much oil loss prob cause of the new rear main. but i want to go with a high mileage oil.

Why even change the oil? Save your money for every thing else that is gonna break.

used to run Mobil One in all my previous vehicles. So far I've stuck with the BMW oils with my X5. Just stay consistant with the oil you do use. KISS
