sw-40 or 30?

Living in miami, so pretty much its 'caliente' all year round. Reading the manual it said choose between the two depending on conditions on where you drive.

Either 5W-30 or 5W-40 is fine. There is a tradeoff between the two, in that the 40 gives more protection at very high ambients (mas caliente que Miami), but the wider viscosity range is achieved by using additives in the oil that are not as stable, so in general the narrower range will hold its viscosity better. That said, there is really very little difference at the ambients we are talking about.

If you were pulling a loaded trailer through Death Valley, the 5w-40 would matter more.

yea, so I went with 30. Bmw suggested the same.
Any opinions on changing it warm or cold? I like the idea of not waiting two hours, and it being thinner, but maybe I'm wrong on this one

I always change it warm, not hot. Either let it cool from hot, or warm it up from cold. I think it is important to get as much as possible out, and to carry the maximum amount of contaminants out with the oil.

Not as long as it was a full synthetic, with an API SM or SL rating.
