Spark plugs, before your rant....

I stopped at my stealer yesterday to see if they had 8 (no parts stores have them in stock) in stock, they did, for only $23.05 a piece! What a rocking deal, I said, their response was, it says BMW by NGK.

I asked, is that what BMW recommends? He said yet, I asked about the Bosch, he said they do in the E70 but that the heads in the 4.8 in the E53 are different.

Is this a bunch of BS or is he telling the (I know they are not sure how to do that) truth?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Mike

P.S. A friend of mine just purchased the 2010 X5 4.8, he drove mine and said his is not as fast nor pulls as hard. Is the power output the same?

I called two different dealers in the metro Atlanta area within the past month and both said that BMW was in the process of discontinuing to supply NGK plugs through the dealerships. In recent times, they offered both Bosch and NGK. The parts guy went to the back, put his hands on the plugs and told me they only offered Bosch at this point. You would be just fine with either the Bosch or NGK (if you dealer still has them).

FWIW, I was quoted around $18.00 per plug with the BMWCCA discount.

Why don't you buy them online ? See here for example :

NGK spark plug BKR6-EQUP (plugs) BKR6EQUP platinum - eBay Mobile (item 270596874222 18/11/2010 16:16:29)

Much cheaper as you can see. I know that this particular eBay seller is UK based (I bought 8 plugs there recently) but there's got to be some US based online sellers.

Thanks everyone, I oerdered a set for $10.05 a plug for the NGK. I figured, if the factory used them in the X when new, thats good enough for me.

Thanks again!

I would not be surprised if the old plugs you take out are Bosch.

It's no big deal, NGK's are fine, but my guess is that they are Bosch.
