My quest to improve on the E53 Cupholder design

Please look at the attached diagram for a cupholder assembly for a 6 series.

Any opinion if you think it would be possible to adapt the cupholder and the assembly that sits below the tunnel, make a notch on the side of the center console, and have it fit into a US 06 E53?

Here's some 6 series images to help.. I just can't tell if there is enough room under the console, and how difficult would it be to make the notch to hold the assembly in place. I think it'll clear the glove box.

Opinions, please (oh, but please spare me the "Nobody drinks nuthin in my BMW" song. I've already heard all the tough tunes about the evils of driving with a hot 12 oz of tea or a to-go mug of hot chocolate)

Thanks

Weasel will become famous soon enough
They make a kit to add that style cupholder to the 1 series too, the trick would be finding the right spot to put it in where it would have the needed room below and the right angle up top. The E53 console doesn't really lend itself to that piece and you don't want to cut a hole in the console unless you are really really sure it will work.

Ironically, I just learned that the 1 series has the same setup as the 6 last night. I agree that prep and care are the essence of making this work right. Frankly, I was hoping that one of the engineering type folk that frequent these boards might add some data/info on the workability of this project...

Thanks for your input

Ed
