Help Please
I could not find this under search and I am new to BWM so I thought I would ask on the board. I recently purchased a 2K1 X5. The Light on the shifter that indicates what position it is in stays on while in park even when the car is off. Is this normal and if so does it drain the battery. My wifes 2k4 325ci stays lit but shuts it self off after about 30 min.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. |

Totally normal to have that light stay on, won't drain your battery either! JV

Thanks for the quick feedback, any reason that they leave it on?

It goes off after a while (don't know how many minutes). I have seen mine come on, when I hit the unlock button on my key. Try it some morning.

some early models (2k1 and earlier) had a problem in that the tranny light did not go off in 15 mins as designed. these required a software update which fixed the issue. it is something that the dealer can do by hooking the x to the MODIC machine.

Does anyone know about how much they charge for the fix? My 01 lights has been on for at lest two hours.

theoretically, there exists a Technical Service Bulletin (required BMW safety fix) which should be done for free..... usually a good dealership will fix it for free...
