European Plates in the US?

is it legal to put a real (but more than 3 years old) european plate on a car here in the US, as long as the current and valid US plate is displayed in its right spot?

As long as you *state issued* plate with current tabs are in place you have the requirement of the statute.

I've seen a handful of people place their US plate overtop their EU plate w/o issues. Unlike the pic above, I think the biggest issue the police car about is that the place is clear and visible for the sake of intersection camera. My GF picked up a plate while at F1 in Abu Dhabi, so I'm thinking about putting it on the rear of either the X or 7 by removing the US style tailgate panel.

ur right james, i have seen alot of ppl doing the EU plate under the US one on the back, but i dont know.. i dont see it stylish at all, since ur covering %80 of it by the US plate. my opinion its pointless . i think if ur state dont require a front plate thn thats a good way to show it by placing in upfront like i did.

I had my old tag from college on the front of my car (it was a university of Fl issue tag). I would think it would be more of an problem as one could easily assume that my rear tag matched the front... Never got bothered by cops.
EU tag in front is obviously harder to confuse as your current tag. Also I see it often here in Atlanta.

You should be good

I kind of agree it's almost pointless since it's covering so much, but even then it's still something most people don't see and gets their attention. Of all the places I've lived, I don't think I've been in one state where a front plate wasn't required...that doesn't mean I didn't try though, so I've had a few license plate tickets before
